ISLAMABAD: The federal government approved a nationwide online police character certificate system, allowing citizens to apply through a central platform without visiting government offices.

The decision was taken at a National Police Bureau meeting chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Under the system, the bureau will process and issue police clearance certificates through an online portal.

Naqvi said the federal government had replaced the lengthy application procedure with a simplified digital process. The system is intended to help citizens obtain certificates from home, particularly for overseas travel and employment requirements.

The announcement follows earlier reports that police records from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir had been integrated into a central platform.

Naqvi also directed officials to prepare a standard nationwide mechanism for International Driving Permits. The proposed system would replace disparate regional procedures with a single application process, according to the supplied report.

The interior minister said strengthening the National Police Bureau remained a federal government priority. Director General Abdul Khaliq Sheikh briefed him on the bureau’s performance and ongoing projects.

The National Police Bureau’s existing public page still describes its computerised police clearance service as limited to certificates required for Spain. The bureau had not published full nationwide application instructions or a launch timetable on that page at the time of publication.
