Peshawar: PDMA has issued a glacial lake outburst flood alert for the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following rising temperatures that have increased the risk of glacial lake outburst floods.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority said severe heat in the upper regions could accelerate glacier melting and increase the risk of glacial lake outbursts.
According to the authority, district administrations in Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Swat, Upper Dir, Kohistan and Mansehra have been directed to take precautionary measures.
The PDMA said that administrations in sensitive glacial areas must remain on high alert and continuously monitor vulnerable locations.
Meanwhile, rescue departments have been instructed to keep machinery, emergency staff and response teams ready at all times.

The authority said local officials should maintain preparedness in areas exposed to Glof risk as temperatures remain high in the northern belt.
Glacial lake outburst floods can occur when meltwater builds pressure behind ice, rock or moraine barriers and then releases suddenly downstream.
