Islamabad, Pakistan: US Congressman Jack Bergman praised Pakistan’s role in US-Iran talks and thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, PTV reported.
Bergman, Co-Chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, sent a letter to both leaders. He called their partnership “indispensable” to the peace effort.
He said the United States relationship with Pakistan has “enduring strategic importance.” He also said Pakistan showed “true statesmanship” by helping bring Washington and Tehran to the negotiating table.
Pakistan hosted US-Iran talks in Islamabad on April 11 and 12. The talks marked the first such direct engagement since 1979.
Bergman said President Donald Trump achieved what past US administrations could not. He added that he looked forward to returning to Pakistan soon.
