Pakistan Railways Privatized Trains Fetch Rs10.75bn

Islamabad, Pakistan, Pakistan Railways has privatised five passenger trains under a public-private partnership model for Rs 10.75 billion, according to the sources.

The outsourced trains include Awam Express, Millat Express and Karakoram Express. The Mianwali and Narowal passenger trains will also operate under the same model.

The five trains were previously generating a profit of Rs 8 billion. Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi praised the Chief Commercial Manager and Pakistan Railways’ commercial team after the outsourcing process.

Pakistan Railways also expects to generate an additional Rs 10 billion in revenue through the outsourcing of freight trains. Abbasi expressed hope that the department’s revenue would reach Rs1 trillion in the current financial year.

April decision granting travel relief to journalists’ families. Pakistan Railways approved a 50% discount for spouses of working journalists on up to 10 single journeys across eligible trains and classes.

The concession does not apply to Green Line, Pak Business Express and Shah Hussain Express. Officials said eligible people must present the required documents to claim the discount
