“Obsession” crossed USD 242.6 million worldwide against a reported USD 750,000 production budget. As a result, Curry Barker’s supernatural thriller became one of 2026’s most profitable films.
The film was released on May 15, 2026, by Focus Features in the United States and Universal Pictures internationally. It has earned USD 169 million in North America and USD 72.6 million overseas.
“Obsession” stars Michael Johnston as Bear, a music store employee. He uses a cursed trinket called “One Wish Willow” to make Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette, fall in love with him.
The film became Focus Features’ highest-grossing release, surpassing the USD 194.6 million mark set by “Downton Abbey.”
Its box-office run included rare second- and third-weekend growth. “Obsession” rose 39% in its second weekend and another 19% in its third.
The film also earned USD 25.6 million domestically in its fourth weekend. Moreover, it topped the horror fourth-weekend mark previously held by “The Blair Witch Project.”

Barker, a 26-year-old YouTuber, made his feature debut after the 2024 short “Milk & Serial.” Focus Features acquired “Obsession” for more than USD 15 million after its Toronto International Film Festival Midnight screening.
Blumhouse Productions co-produced the film, which was made in about 20 days. It held a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of June 13, 2026.
