ISLAMABAD: The NDMA flood alert warned of heavy rainfall, flash floods and rising river levels across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir from July 22 to 24.
The National Disaster Management Authority said rivers, streams and water channels in Gilgit-Baltistan could record sharp increases in flow. Flash floods and hill torrents may also affect several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The authority warned of hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, while the Kurram River near Mianwali may experience flooding. Zhob, Loralai, Ziarat, Barkhan, Sibi and nearby areas of Balochistan also face flash-flood risks.
Intense rainfall could cause urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Peshawar. An official weather advisory also identified Islamabad, Lahore and Multan among cities vulnerable to urban flooding during the monsoon spell.

The NDMA said the Chenab River at Marala could reach high flood levels, while the Jhelum River at Mangla may experience medium flooding. Low-level flooding is possible at the Ravi River’s Balloki section within 24 to 48 hours.
Water levels are also expected to rise in the Swat, Panjkora, Chitral and Kabul rivers and their tributaries.
The authority advised people to avoid unnecessary travel in mountainous and flood-prone areas. It also urged local administrations and emergency services to monitor vulnerable locations, keep response teams ready and maintain road access during rainfall.
