National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) offers an alternative verification procedure for citizens whose fingerprints biometric devices cannot read, a spokesperson said.
Speaking to the media, the spokesperson said the authority had received complaints about failed fingerprint checks. Citizens with faint or unavailable fingerprints can use the alternative procedure to verify their identity.
Officials identified banks and other institutions as places where these difficulties arise. NADRA expects the alternative to reduce problems accessing services that require biometric checks.
NADRA had previously announced facial recognition certificates for people unable to complete fingerprint verification. That announcement set January 20 as the starting date for issuance at registration centres.

Under the procedure described then, staff take a fresh photograph and compare it with the image in NADRA’s records. Successful applicants receive a certificate to submit to the institution requiring verification. That institution then checks the certificate online through NADRA.
