Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed, Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), announced that the bureau recovered, totalling Rs2.3 trillion and generated over $10 billion in savings for Pakistan’s national exchequer.
At a recent event, he underscored the importance of collective action in combating corruption and reiterated NAB’s unwavering commitment to holding corrupt individuals accountable.
The Chairman emphasized the crucial role of economic documentation in reducing corruption and benefiting the country. He also reaffirmed NAB’s dedication to meeting the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) standards.
The commitment was echoed by guest speakers at the event, including prominent economist Dr. Ashfaque Hassan Khan of NIPS and Jeremy Milsom, the Country Representative of UNODC Pakistan.

Dr. Ashfaque Hassan Khan, delivering the keynote speech, highlighted the civic responsibility of citizens to register in the taxation system, linking it to welfare benefits and financial inclusivity. He advocated for a restructured tax system that offers incentives rather than punitive measures.
Nauman Aslam, Director General of the Awareness & Prevention Division at NAB Headquarters, also spoke, emphasizing the importance of Anti-Corruption Day and the role of his division in raising awareness about corruption’s harmful impacts. The event concluded with Chairman Nazir Ahmed recognizing NAB officers for their exceptional performance awarding them with Merit and Appreciation Certificates.
