The Senate was informed by the State minister of the Interior Balighur Rehman on Wednesday that the sectarian killings were responsible for at least 2,090 lives over the past five years.

Sindh, where a large number of doctors, professors and other professionals have been ruitinely targeteded has seen 252 killings.
Punjab, which saw some of the worst riots in the country last year following a clash of two groups in Rawalpindi on Ashura that resulted in a curfew, 104 people were killed in sectarian violence over five years.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 22. While Gilgit-Baltistan, , saw 103 people falling victim to sectarian violence. Five people lost their lives in Islamabad in sectarian attacks.
The exact number will probably be higher since the reply provided covered the period from January 2008 to January 2014 only.
The senators asked the minister to provide figure of people convicted of sectarian killings. However the minister had no answer the this question.
