TEHRAN, Iran: Iran appointed former Revolutionary Guards chief Mohsen Rezaei to two senior national security posts on Sunday, August 9.
According to state-run IRNA, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei first named Rezaei as his representative to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).
President Masoud Pezeshkian later appointed him council secretary, replacing Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, IRNA reported.
The agency timestamped its report at 10:07 p.m. Iran time, equivalent to 11:37 p.m. PKT. Neither appointment decree disclosed the exact time the decisions were signed.
The supreme leader’s decree cited Rezaei’s “valuable experiences” and described him as a pioneer of the 1980–1988 Iran-Iraq war. It also thanked Zolghadr for his service as the outgoing representative, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Rezaei commanded the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from 1981 to 1997. He later held senior political and economic positions, including posts on the Expediency Discernment Council and as vice president for economic affairs, according to IRNA.

Pezeshkian formally chairs the SNSC, which handles Iran’s principal security and foreign-policy decisions under Article 176 of the constitution, according to the Iranian presidency.
