KARACHI, Sindh: Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar said the provincial government would seek a judicial commission headed by high court judges to investigate the killing of businessman Mir Raza Ali.

Lanjar told Geo News programme Naya Pakistan that the decision was taken after a meeting with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. He said the government would ask the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court to constitute the commission.
Ali’s body was found in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area last month, a day after he went missing on July 28. His body was later exhumed for another post-mortem examination before being reburied near Tariq Road.

Lanjar said the investigation team had also been changed, with Deputy Inspector General Amir Farooqi appointed as its head. He added that the family could recommend a police officer for inclusion in the investigation team.

A five-member committee headed by Farooqi was formed on the instructions of Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho, following the dissolution of the previous committee. The panel includes officers from the Rapid Response Force, the Korangi investigation wing, the Central district and the Special Investigation Unit.

Lanjar said the judicial commission would examine two medical reports in the case and determine questions arising from conflicting findings. He also acknowledged that investigators had not preserved the initial crime scene in the required manner.

The minister said investigators had so far found nothing indicating that a high-profile personality was behind the killing. He added that the investigation remained open and that no police officer’s opinion would be treated as final.
