KARACHI, Sindh: Mir Raza Ali’s smartwatch and mobile phone have been handed to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) as his family seeks a forensic examination in Punjab.

Lawyer Jibran Nasir, who represents the family, said relatives met NCCIA officials and requested that the devices be examined by the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA).

The development comes as authorities continue investigating Mir Raza Ali’s death after his body was recovered from Gulistan-e-Johar in Karachi.

Nasir had earlier raised concerns about the handling of the smartwatch. He alleged that SSP Soomro kept the device for eight days after police requested it on the day of Raza’s Soyem, describing it as important evidence in the investigation.

Meanwhile, Dr Usama, who conducted the initial post-mortem examination, has been removed from his position and summoned before an inquiry committee.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho previously acknowledged lapses at several levels of the investigation, including shortcomings involving a medico-legal officer from the provincial health department.

Odho said authorities were taking steps to address the shortcomings while the inquiry continued in light of the medical board’s detailed findings.

Police had initially based their investigation on the medico-legal report issued after the first post-mortem examination.
