KARACHI: New CCTV footage from Mir Raza Ali appears to show the businessman discarding his mobile phone near where police later recovered it, investigators said.
Police said a citizen found the handset and later directed investigators to the precise recovery point.
The location matched where the footage showed Ali throwing an illuminated object. Investigators collected more evidence from the area. They also began forensic and technical analysis of the newly obtained recordings.
The phone itself is undergoing forensic examination. Police hope the data will provide further evidence about Ali’s final movements.
Separate CCTV recordings showed Ali walking alone near Gulistan-e-Jauhar after leaving an online taxi, investigators said.
Ali, a 25-year-old IBA graduate and Wafflix founder, was found dead in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on July 29.
Police are also examining Ali’s digital-currency dealings after investigators identified losses and investments from several people.
Authorities are questioning people linked to those transactions. However, they have not established any connection between the losses and Ali’s death.
Ali’s missing .30-bore pistol remains a central issue. Police said the fatal bullet matched that calibre, while officers recovered no weapon or spent casing.

A pistol holster was recovered near the scene, and forensic inconsistencies continue to complicate the investigation.
Police have not determined whether Ali was killed or died by suicide. His family rejects the suicide possibility and alleges a planned killing.
