A notorious pir Mian Abdul Haq aka Mian, from Sindh, is on the British government’s sanctions list, making Pakistan one of 11 nations where rights abusers or penalized.
In a statement issued to the local newspaper ‘Dawn News’,” the British High Commission said The UK takes freedom of religion or belief very seriously and is committed to protecting minorities around the world. The new package of sanctions targets those violating fundamental freedoms. This includes Mian Abdul Haq, a cleric of the Bharchundi Sharif shrine in Ghotki, Sindh, who is responsible for forced marriages and forced religious conversions of non-Muslims and minors. This sanctions package does not include any other Pakistani national.”
Mian Mitho, a pir in upper Sindh, is accused of forcing minor Hindu girls to convert and marry. He’s disputed the claims and claimed he fostered religious unity in Sindh.
Mian Mitho gained attention after converting a Hindu girl, Rinkle Kumari, afterward renamed Faryal, to Islam in February 2012, before her marriage to a local Muslim, Naveed Shah.
Mian Mithu stated the conversion was voluntary. However, he made headlines again in September.
He made waves when he led protesters against an alleged blasphemy incident.
