A major power breakdown overnight plunged over 80 percent areas of Karachi into the dark in Sunday’s wee hours.
According to Karachi Electric (KE) and power suppliers, the main transmission line tripped and they are trying to fix it.
According sources, grid stations of KE, which distribute electricity to all parts of the city, were disrupted as three 220 kilovolt (KV) lines and three 132 KV lines had stopped working.
According to spokesman of K-Electric, Ahmed Faraz, the power supply from national grid was suspended due to a technical glitch in high-tension line spawned a major power breakdown overnight.
He further added that nearly entire Karachi city is suffering from the power failure, adding he cannot give timeframe for the restoration of the power supply.
The affected areas include Clifton, DHA, Saddar, Shahra-e-Faisal, Nazimabad, Airport, Malir Cantt, Landhi, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqabal, Federal B. Aarea, Liaquatabad, Nursery, Sohrab Goth, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Garden, Lasbela, and Gurumandir.
