A Louisiana domestic violence shooting left eight children dead early Sunday in Shreveport, where police said the violence stretched across multiple residences before officers killed the suspect after a car chase.
Police said the victims ranged in age from one to 14. Investigators also said some of the children were the suspect’s descendants, underscoring the deeply personal nature of the attack.
Police described the case as a domestic disturbance and said the crime scene spans at least two residences, with a third property also part of the wider investigation.
Corporal Chris Bordelon told reporters that investigators were combing through the locations to piece together exactly how the shooting unfolded. Authorities believe the suspect was the only person who fired shots at the scene.

The shooting happened in Shreveport, a city in northwestern Louisiana. In addition to the eight children killed, two other people were struck by gunfire, although officials did not immediately provide updates on their conditions.
Police said the suspect later carjacked a vehicle and led officers on a chase. The pursuit ended when police opened fire and killed the assailant.
Authorities have not immediately identified the gunman publicly. However, police said the evidence so far points to one shooter connected to all the locations under investigation.
The scale of the scene has added to the shock in Shreveport. Officials described it as an extensive investigation, with multiple homes tied to the violence.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux called it a terrible morning for the city and said the community mourns with the victims.
The shooting adds to the wider toll of gun violence in the United States, where mass killings and domestic violence cases continue to leave families and communities devastated.
