LEEDS, England: British soprano Laura Wright won praise from Pakistani fans after performing the Pakistan anthem rendition before Wednesday’s Test against England.
Wright sang Pakistan’s national anthem a cappella before play, prompting a wave of reactions from viewers on X.
One fan said the performance brought “happy tears”. Another jokingly suggested Wright should receive Pakistani citizenship and a national identity card.

Some viewers were less convinced by the rendition, while others shifted their attention quickly back to Pakistan’s performance on the field.
Fans also suggested Pakistani singers Aima Baig and Sahir Ali Bagga could perform the British anthem during a future England tour of Pakistan.

Pakistan scored 171 in their first innings; England reached 112 for two by the end of the opening day.
