Lahore, Punjab, the province’s first electric tram is likely to begin operating in fiscal year 2026-27, Transport Minister Bilal Akbar said.
Akbar told media correspondents that the contracting process for the Lahore electric tram project had been completed. He said the scheme had now entered the procurement phase.
The Punjab transport minister said the proposed route would start from the Central Business District. It will pass through Jail Road and Mall Road before ending at Istanbul Chowk.

Akbar said no trees would be cut down for the electric tram project. He added that an earlier plan for a complete metro-style system had been postponed.
The project marks Punjab’s first planned electric tram service and forms part of Lahore’s transport expansion plans, according to the source brief.
