SWAT, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: KP suspends two traffic officers after a video allegedly showed them assaulting a driver, threatening him with a pistol and damaging his car, the provincial government said on July 16.
The footage appeared to show a roadside altercation between the officers and the driver. One officer allegedly pointed a pistol at the man, struck him with its butt and smashed the car’s windscreen.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, in a statement on social media platform X, said both officers had been suspended and ordered to report to police headquarters. They will remain there while the department conducts an inquiry into their alleged conduct.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Traffic Police formed an inquiry committee to investigate the incident. Authorities directed the committee to contact the affected driver immediately and record his account.
The provincial government’s statement said it would not tolerate mistreatment of citizens or misuse of official authority. Officials promised disciplinary action if the inquiry establishes responsibility.
