Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: The KP Ashura security plan includes suspending mobile phone service in selected areas and tightening security for 9th and 10th Muharram, officials said.
Security officials said services would be suspended in some areas. Partial restrictions will apply in other sensitive locations to maintain law and order during Ashura observances.
Authorities have declared 400 Imambargahs across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sensitive or highly sensitive. They also placed 286 mourning processions in the highly sensitive category and 190 in the sensitive category.

In Peshawar, police and security agencies have made strict arrangements for Ashura. Mobile phone services will be partially suspended, while the Cantonment area will be sealed during the central procession on 9th Muharram.
On 10th Muharram, authorities will set up enhanced security checkpoints and special cordons at all entry and exit points of Peshawar.
Walk-through gates will be installed at procession routes and Imambargahs. CCTV cameras will provide round-the-clock surveillance.

Security forces will conduct search-and-sweep operations in various parts of the province. Officials will also increase monitoring of hotels, guest houses and residential facilities in sensitive areas.
Some markets in Peshawar’s inner city may close in phases under the security plan. Temporary closures of some locations also remain under consideration.
The provincial government has set up a central control room at the Civil Secretariat to monitor security arrangements for Ashura. Monitoring and coordination centres have also been activated at deputy commissioners’ offices across all districts.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government announced public holidays on June 25 and June 26 for 9th and 10th Muharram, according to a notification.
