Karachi, Sindh: The Sindh government declared public holidays across the province on June 25 and June 26 for the 9th and 10th of Muharram, according to a notification.
The holidays will mark the 9th and 10th of Muharram 1448 Hijri. The 10th of Muharram, or Ashura, will fall on Friday, June 26.
The notification said the holidays were announced by the interior ministry. Authorities have also adopted security measures nationwide to prevent any untoward incidents during Muharram. Requests have been made to suspend cellular services for security reasons.

Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad announced last week that the Muharram moon had not been sighted.
He said 1st Muharram 1448 Hijri would begin on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The announcement followed a moon-sighting meeting at Iqbal Hall in Badshahi Mosque, Lahore.
Provincial and zonal committees also held parallel meetings in several cities. Azad said the committee had not received any credible testimony about the crescent moon sighting.
