KHANEWAL, Punjab: Police arrested a newlywed woman’s father over the Khanewal bride killing, alleging she was strangled three days after marrying a man of her choice, local media reported Thursday.
Police identified the victim as Iqra and said the incident occurred in Chak No. 170/10-R, Khanewal district.
Investigators alleged that her father, Falak Sher, brought Iqra from her in-laws’ residence after telling her that a wedding departure ceremony would be arranged from her parents’ home.
Police accused Sher and three of his sons of strangling Iqra at the family residence. The allegation has not been tested in court.

A first information report (FIR) was registered against the father and three brothers on the complaint of Iqra’s husband, police told local media.
Sher was taken into custody following the incident. Police said the investigation remained underway, while the available reports did not specify whether the three other suspects had been arrested.
