Recently, Colombian singer Karol G was at the center of a controversy after the cover of GQ magazine featured a heavily altered version of her visage.
The 32-year-old artist’s most recent studio album, “Manana sera bonito,” has amassed millions of streams on digital platforms despite the controversy surrounding her excessive use of Photoshop.
Karol G discussed her distinctive tattoos, especially those on her right arm, in a detailed interview with GQ. These tattoos depict the features of three women, including those of two female artists she greatly admires: Rihanna and Selena Quintanilla.
Surprisingly, the third visage is her own, representing self-appreciation and acknowledgment of her struggles and accomplishments.
Karol G elaborated on her decision to tattoo her face, stating, “I went to a tattoo artist and told him I wanted a tattoo of the women I most revere in the world. So more individuals should get tattoos of themselves! Because only you are aware of how difficult life has been for you. No one but you can feel that.”
The singer’s tattoos function as a personal diary, with each design representing a distinct period of her life.
Karol G’s collaboration with fellow Colombian vocalist Shakira on the song “TQG” has become the longest-running Spanish collaboration between two women at the Top-10 of the global Spotify chart, totaling 51 days. This has further solidified her position as a prominent figure in the music industry.
Moreover, the song’s official music video, which debuted on February 23 and has received more than 420 million views on YouTube, demonstrates the far-reaching effect of their collaboration.
