A Karachi robbery killing left Mansoor Ahmed dead early Saturday near Super Highway as he waited to travel to Ghotki for his minor daughter’s funeral, police said.
Police said unidentified robbers targeted Mansoor Ahmed and his brother Rashid Ali near Punjab Bus Adda while they waited for a coach to their hometown in Ghotki, Sindh. The suspects tried to snatch valuables from the two brothers, according to police.
The robbers opened fire after the victims resisted the robbery attempt, killing Mansoor on the spot and injuring Rashid, officials said. Police shifted the body and the injured man to a nearby hospital after the shooting.
Investigators recovered 9mm pistol shells from the crime scene, police said. Authorities said the case initially appeared to involve resistance to robbery.
Rashid Ali told reporters that the brothers had reached the bus terminal after Mansoor’s young daughter died in Ghotki. He said they were sitting on a footpath under a bridge when robbers arrived on a motorcycle.
Rashid said Mansoor resisted during a scuffle before the suspects opened fire and fled. Police said they had launched an investigation into the killing.
Following the incident, SSP East Zubair Nazir Ahmed Shaikh suspended Abbas Town checkpost in-charge Jaffer over negligence. Police did not immediately announce any arrests.
