Israel UN list tensions escalated after envoy Danny Danon said the United Nations added Israel to a conflict-related sexual violence list alongside Hamas.
Danon said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres informed him of the decision by phone. He called the move political and disconnected from facts.
Israel’s foreign ministry said it would sever all ties with Guterres’ office. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the secretary-general’s door remained open.
Guterres had warned Israel last year over alleged violations by Israeli armed and security forces against Palestinians in detention sites.

AP reported that the latest UN report also added Russian forces. Hamas remained listed over alleged sexual violence linked to the October 7, 2023, attack, allegations it denies.
