ISLAMABAD: The Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Islamabad, says its Anti-Smuggling Squad seized 1,200kg of charas near the M-2 motorway early on Friday.
Officers acted on an intelligence tip about a narcotics consignment, Customs said. They carried out the operation at about 2:30 am PKT.
Customs reported recovering approximately 100kg of poppy seeds, a firearm and a 2005-model Toyota Prado. It described the vehicle as not customs-paid and linked it to the alleged transport of contraband.
Suspects fled in darkness after noticing the team, according to Customs. Officers took the vehicle and recovered items into custody.
Customs put the narcotics’ estimated international market value at about Rs. 5.40 billion. Its assessment for the full seizure, including the vehicle and other items, was approximately Rs. 5.41 billion.

The collectorate registered a first information report (FIR) against unidentified suspects under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and the Customs Act, 1962.
Investigators are working to identify and apprehend those involved and establish the network behind the consignment.
