ISLAMABAD: Islamabad car theft crackdown led police to recover 50 stolen vehicles worth PKR 1.633 billion and arrest 38 suspects during 2026’s first eight months, the force said Wednesday.
The Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICT Police) said its Anti-Vehicle Lifting Unit (AVLU) recovered 29 vehicles stolen in 2026. The remaining 21 vehicles related to theft cases from previous years.
A police performance report said investigators used technical resources to locate the vehicles and suspects. It did not identify those arrested or provide details about individual cases.
The unit arrested 14 alleged members of six active car-lifting gangs, according to the report. Police also detained eight proclaimed offenders and previously convicted suspects allegedly linked to serious crimes.

Senior Superintendent of Police for Investigation Suleman Zafar said protecting residents and their property remained a priority. He said ICT Police would continue operations against alleged vehicle thieves and organised gangs.
