TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that any new military attack would draw retaliation. Its statement marked the third anniversary of Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel.
Any attempt to start another war would face a “painful and devastating response for the aggressor”, the Guards said.
While praising the Hamas offensive, the IRGC claimed it had permanently undermined perceptions of Israeli military invincibility. It argued that regional power had shifted towards Iran and its allies.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, citing Israeli authorities in November 2023, put the attack’s death toll at more than 1,200 people. Some 250 people were abducted.

In its anniversary statement, the Guards described allied groups across the region as a coordinated front. It maintained that they remained united despite the deaths of senior commanders.
The IRGC also claimed Iran’s operational control over the Strait of Hormuz had created difficulties for Washington. According to the Guards, US and Israeli efforts to weaken or divide Iran had failed.
