TEHRAN: Iran-US talks can resume only if Washington accepts conditions including ending fighting, releasing frozen Iranian assets and lifting its naval blockade, security chief Mohsen Rezaei said Saturday.

Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, told Al Jazeera that Qatar had conveyed Tehran’s terms to Washington. He said Iran was awaiting a response from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Rezaei separately said Iran had communicated seven conditions to Washington. However, he did not publicly disclose the complete list, and major media outlets reporting independently confirm only the three terms he specified in his interview.

Qatar and Pakistan have continued mediation efforts since the earlier Islamabad memorandum expired in August without producing a lasting settlement.

Pakistan has also held recent talks with Iranian officials to revive diplomacy and address disruption in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Trump told Axios on September 17 that he faced a major decision over whether to restart large-scale military operations against Iran.

He is scheduled to discuss the conflict with leaders of six Gulf states in New York during the United Nations General Assembly.

On Iran’s nuclear policy, Rezaei said Tehran had not decided to leave the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. He said its declared nuclear doctrine remained unchanged, while warning that future U.S. actions could affect that position.

The Iran-US talks therefore remain mediated rather than formally resumed, with Tehran awaiting Washington’s response to its stated conditions.
