TEHRAN: Iran has called on countries to pursue legal action against those responsible for killing late Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. The appeal came as Tehran marked the second anniversary of his death.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said governments had a moral and legal duty under international law to prosecute those responsible for the September 2024 Israeli strike.
Meanwhile, the ministry also cited the Quranic verse: وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَمْوَاتًا ۚ بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ
“And do not think of those who are killed in the way of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision.”
The ministry described the attack as a “heinous and unforgivable crime”. It said the strike also killed Iranian commander Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan and others accompanying Nasrallah.
Nasrallah was killed on September 27, 2024, in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh. Hezbollah confirmed his death the following day.
Iran used the anniversary statement to repeat its support for Lebanon’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity. Tehran said a strong and independent Lebanon was important for regional stability.

The Foreign Ministry also paid tribute to figures linked to Iran and allied regional movements. They included Qassem Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Abdulkarim al-Ghamari.
Separately, an anniversary account highlighted Nasrallah’s influence on generations of supporters.
Araghchi referred to Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem’s leadership after Nasrallah’s death as a continuation of the movement’s political course.
