WASHINGTON: US officials told Axios on Wednesday that the Pentagon ordered US Central Command (CENTCOM) to prepare for possible Iran strikes.

Although the directive arrived several days earlier, it set no date for launching attacks. US and Israeli sources described possible operations before the November 3 US midterm elections, potentially before Israel’s elections a week earlier.
Trump’s national security team met at Camp David on October 2. An Israeli official said they discussed restarting major combat operations there.
Separately, Trump spoke with Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Wednesday. They had held another call in recent days.
