TEHRAN, Iran: Iran has prepared a two-year plan to withstand new US sanctions, Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh said Tuesday, August 25.
Madanizadeh told Iranian state television that Tehran had expected Washington’s latest measures. He said the government was ready to manage their economic effects.
Earlier, the Trump administration announced the sanctions on Monday, August 24. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington aimed to isolate Iran financially and restrict its international economic links.
Meanwhile, the latest measures target nearly 60 entities, individuals and vessels across several jurisdictions. US officials said some targets belong to Iran’s sanctions-evading “shadow fleet.”

Iran’s rial also fell to 2.02 million against the US dollar before Bessent’s announcement. The level was a record low. However, Madanizadeh rejected Washington’s pressure campaign. He predicted the latest sanctions would fail.

Separately, Iranian forces attacked an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz after the US announcement. The supplied material did not independently substantiate that claim.
