TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had granted the government “certain authorities” concerning Iran peace talks with the United States.
State media quoted Pezeshkian as saying Tehran would try to resolve the conflict through dialogue. He gave no details of the powers or how officials would use them.
The statement followed renewed diplomatic contacts between Tehran and Washington through regional mediators. An Iranian delegation had visited Doha, where Qatar has been helping the two sides exchange messages.
Despite the diplomatic efforts, the countries had not announced a final agreement. Pezeshkian offered no timetable for the next stage of talks.
