An Indian woman delivered a baby earlier this week in the lavatory of a  train but the newborn slipped through the toilet bowl to fall on the tracks, but miraculously survived the accident.

The 22-year-old woman, Mannu, was travelling with her husband and mother from Suratgarh to Hanumangarh in the train when she experienced labour pains. She went to the toilet and delivered the baby there, after which she fell unconscious, police said.

The train was stationary some 13km from Hanumangarh junction at the time of the delivery. By the time her family members saw her lying in the lavatory, the train had left for Hanumangarh.

“When the train arrived at the Hanumangarh junction, they sought help from the GRP following which she was admitted to a local hospital,” a police official said.

Meanwhile, a local man spotted the baby crying in the middle of the tracks and informed the police.

“The baby was also hospitalised,” the police said, adding that condition of both the woman as well as the newborn was normal.
