ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said on Monday that an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could follow if constitutional requirements warranted it.
Tarar maintained that the Constitution provides a mechanism for such action. He indicated that authorities would use it if circumstances required.
Separately, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi described governor’s rule as a last resort. He maintained that the federal government and president would carefully consider any decision.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi rejected threats of governor’s rule or an emergency. Addressing a meeting in Peshawar on Monday, he maintained that such warnings would not change his position.

Kundi expressed concern about the province’s law and order situation and urged its government to address local problems.
“The government should first resolve the problems of its own province,” he said.
According to Kundi, young doctors, nurses and police personnel from the areas he referred to as the federally and provincially administered tribal areas were on strike.
On the provincial assembly, Kundi argued that the opposition could not currently bring a no-confidence motion. He linked that possibility to the formation of a dissident group within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
