Islamabad, Pakistan: The Pakistan Meteorological Department issued a GLOF alert for Gilgit-Baltistan and northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as rain, storms, and strong winds hit the upper areas.
A moderate westerly wave has entered northern Pakistan. The Met Office expects rain, wind and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls in mountain catchments.
The PMD warned of glacial lake outburst floods, debris flows and flash flooding in Swat, Chitral, Dir, Ghizer, Hunza, Nagar, Diamer, Ghanche, Shigar and Astore.
Its monitoring cell is tracking rain in Parishing, Sost, Reshun Booni, Arkari, Matiltan, Mankeyal, Hisper-Hopper, Strangbut, Arandu and Ghulkin.
The PMD told disaster teams to stay alert around the clock. It also asked officials to work with local disaster risk committees in vulnerable valleys.

Officials must keep in contact with technical teams in remote areas. They must also share warnings through SMS and social media.
The advisory told residents to avoid riverbanks and stream beds during rain. It also urged people to watch for muddy water or unusual grinding sounds in nullahs.
Residents should move livestock and essential items to higher ground. Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi district set up livestock counters in cattle markets after the KP and GB warnings.
