Freedom 250 America250 confusion has grown after performers withdrew from a National Mall event tied to President Donald Trump’s U.S. 250th anniversary plans.
Axios reported that several performers said they were misled about the event’s nature. Country singer Martina McBride said she had been assured it was a nonpartisan celebration of all 50 states.
Freedom 250 was created early in Trump’s second term. The White House describes it as part of efforts to mark 250 years of American independence on July 4, 2026.
America250 is separate. Congress created the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission in 2016 to plan nationwide commemorations for the anniversary.

Freedom 250 plans large-scale events in Washington, D.C. They include the Great American State Fair, a FIFA World Cup fan zone and other national programming.
America250 has focused on community events, charitable giving and a national time capsule. The group says the capsule will be displayed in Philadelphia and buried on Independence Day.
Axios reported that America250 has received part of a $50 million congressional appropriation. It also reported that $10 million in funds was rerouted to Freedom 250.
