Islamabad/Karachi: The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to postpone the union council elections in 8 districts of Sindh and has dispatched a summary to the effect for approval to the Chief Election Commissioner.

The districts where elections in certain union councils are likely to be postponed include Hyderabad, Badin, Tharparkar, Tando Allahyar, Mirpur Khas, Benazirabad, Nosheraferoz and Jamshoro.

Earlier the Supreme Court of Pakistan had issued its verdict on the Election Commission of Pakistan’s petition regarding postponing elections. The apex ruled that the Election Commission is an independent institution and should decide the matter on its own.
