Karachi police arrested Romina, wife of slain doctor Dr Sarang Memon, over her alleged role in his April 21 murder on Sharea Faisal, authorities said
Police said unidentified assailants shot Dr Sarang dead while he was travelling with his wife in a rickshaw. The attackers intercepted the rickshaw on Sharea Faisal and killed him after confirming his identity.
Investigators later registered a first information report at Artillery Maidan Police Station on the complaint of the doctor’s brother, Sarmad Hussain. Police then examined the case from multiple angles.
Sources privy to the investigation said evidence and technical information shifted suspicion toward Romina. Further inquiries uncovered evidence of her alleged involvement in her husband’s murder.
Police also detained one alleged accomplice and recovered the rented car used in the killing. Authorities did not immediately share further details about the suspect’s role.
Police said Dr Sarang originally hailed from Badin, Sindh, and worked at a private hospital in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The FIR said the couple was heading home when a white car intercepted their rickshaw near the Mehran Hotel underpass.
According to the FIR, a man wearing a shalwar kameez got out of the car and forced Dr Sarang out of the rickshaw at gunpoint. The attacker opened fire, and the doctor later died after suffering three bullet wounds.
