PESHAWAR: Pakistan Railways has delivered 750,000 litres of diesel to the Peshawar region in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by freight train. The shipment from Rawalpindi forms part of supplies to Pakistan State Oil (PSO) depots.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the rail deliveries. Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has instructed officials to continue transporting diesel daily.
Officials said timely fuel supplies would help maintain transport services.
Another freight train carrying one million litres from Mahmood Kot was scheduled to reach the region on Saturday night. Its arrival has not yet been confirmed.
Separately, officials briefed a government review meeting that more than five million people had registered for the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema chaired the meeting in Islamabad on Thursday.

Representatives of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and the Pakistan Digital Authority presented an implementation update. They reported that the system was issuing fuel relief tokens successfully.
Officials told the meeting that most registration problems and other issues at petrol stations had been resolved. Most participating stations had also received payments.
State Bank of Pakistan officials estimated at the meeting that outstanding payment issues would take another one to two days to resolve.
