Sudheer, the victim of a highly publicised assault in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), pardoned businessman Salman Farooqi during a hearing at the South Judicial Magistrate’s Court.

The DHA assault case, which generated outrage after a viral video, saw Sudheer drop the charges against Farooqi, marking a significant resolution to the situation.

Sudheer was unaware of the court summons until his lawyer informed him. He identified Farooqi but expressed no desire to pursue legal action, stating, “I have forgiven the accused.” When asked about coercion regarding his decision, he confirmed it was voluntary and raised no objections to the court’s ruling. The court recorded his statement, noting his intent to end the case.

The incident took place when Farooqi assaulted Sudheer, a motorcyclist, in the Ittehad Commercial area of DHA, in front of Sudheer’s sister. This attack was recorded in a viral video. The case has been filed at Gizri Police Station, with charges of assault, death threats, and public humiliation based on the complaint from eyewitness Muhammad Saleem. This incident has sparked significant public outrage.

Farooqi’s arrest came after a technical investigation, during which his driver and guard were also detained. A viral video of the assault brought attention to issues of power abuse, leading to calls for reform. In light of a related incident where Farooqi’s lawyer slapped him in court, Sudheer’s pardon highlights the complex social dynamics at play. The resolution of the Gizri Police case may impact public trust in Karachi’s legal system.
