Spain coach Luis de la Fuente condemned the conduct of some Argentina players during the July 2026 World Cup final brawl, describing the post-match scenes as intolerable and unacceptable.
De la Fuente told Spanish broadcaster TVE that he initially missed the confrontation because he was celebrating Spain’s 1-0 extra-time victory with his players.
The coach said he formed a clear view after watching footage of the incident, which began shortly after referee Slavko Vinčić blew the final whistle.
Videos released after the match showed an early confrontation involving Argentina defender Nahuel Molina and Spain midfielder Rodri.
“Es intolerable, no se puede permitir. Quiero destacar nuestro comportamiento ante ese tipo de agresiones, nuestros jugadores siempre mantuvieron las formas y actitud de buenos deportistas”.

De la Fuente said footballers competing at that level must maintain respect despite the pressure and disappointment surrounding a World Cup final.

He praised Spain’s players for remaining composed during what he described as aggression and provocation from their opponents.
FIFA has opened an investigation and will review the referee’s report, video footage and other evidence before deciding whether to impose sanctions on individuals involved.
