LISBON: The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) suspended Cristiano Ronaldo for 30 days on Monday and fined him €255 ($286) for leaving the national team camp without permission.
The disciplinary council found that the 41-year-old captain deliberately breached Article 160(1) of the federation’s regulations.
Ronaldo left Portugal’s camp in Copenhagen on September 30, the day before a Nations League match against Denmark.
His departure followed disagreements with head coach Jorge Jesus over his role in the team. Ronaldo had remained an unused substitute during Portugal’s 2–1 victory over Norway on September 27.
After leaving, Ronaldo accused Jesus of breaking promises about his playing time. Jesus denied making specific promises.

However, Ronaldo apologised for departing without permission and accepted that the federation should decide his punishment. He also insisted that he had never considered retiring from international football.
An automatic provisional suspension took effect when Ronaldo left camp. The federation subsequently opened disciplinary proceedings on October 9 and imposed a separate provisional suspension.

Officials referred the case for investigation the following day. The ruling confirms the punishment for the camp departure, but the camps differ on how the provisional suspensions affect the end date.
