Foreign Office spokesperson, Tasnim Aslam on Thursday said “the fake polio vaccination campaigns have dealt a terrible blow to the cause letting it out that certain UN agencies had also been working with Dr. Shakil Afridi. Militants’ opposition to inoculation has gathered more momentum since Dr. Afridi helped the CIA hunt down Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in 2011 through a fake vaccine project. The surge of cases in Pakistan is said to be “a reaction to the Afridi case”.
FO Office spokesperson has also confirmed that Pakistan had already informed WHO that impediments like security situation, terrorism, same type of vaccinations, etc stand in the way of Pakistan’s anti-polio drive.
