A declassified CIA Mars remote viewing file circulating online documents a May 22, 1984 U.S. government experiment. In this experiment, a subject was tasked with mentally observing Mars roughly one million years B.C.
The nine-page transcript says the subject received a sealed envelope containing the target “The planet Mars” and the approximate time period. Then the session provided geographic coordinates verbally.
At different coordinates, the viewer described a pyramid-like structure in a depression, large smooth-walled buildings, channels and shelters that appeared designed to withstand severe storms. Moreover, the transcript also records descriptions of very tall, thin figures wearing fitted clothing.
The subject further claimed the population was facing an environmental catastrophe. In addition, the transcript says some inhabitants had left in search of another place to live. These statements were perceptions reported during the session. They were not independently observed facts.
The document forms part of the declassified records associated with the U.S. government’s remote-viewing research, later known as Stargate. The CIA says such programmes investigated whether purported psychic perception could have intelligence value.

A later independent evaluation concluded that remote viewing was too unreliable and inconsistent for intelligence use. Therefore, the CIA did not revive the programme. Nothing in the Mars transcript scientifically verifies ancient buildings, humanoid inhabitants or a civilisation on the planet.
