As a security measure against probable terrorist attacks during Ashura, cellular networks have been switched off in the select sensitive cities of Pakistan.
The services are likely to remain suspended till 6pm and in many cities till 10pm, officials said.
Reports said the cellular phone services were suspended in Karachi, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Attock, Peshawar, D.I Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Jhang and other cities. Pillion riding was also banned in various cities, with thousands of police and Rangers men deployed on routes of mourning processions.
