Rapper Cardi B has come under heavy criticism after making a profane remark about a four-year-old girl whose lighthearted NFL prediction video went viral ahead of the AFC Championship Game.

The controversy emerged days before the playoff clash between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos, a matchup that drew intense attention across social media.

Reese Donatelli, a four-year-old social media personality, gained online popularity for posting playful NFL predictions. In the videos, she randomly selects team helmets based on colour or personal preference, a format her family has used for several years.

One such prediction predicted a Patriots loss, prompting an emotional reaction from Cardi B, who is dating Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

During an Instagram Live session on January 18, Cardi B used profanity while reacting to the clip. The remark spread rapidly across social platforms, drawing swift criticism.

Cardi B calls a 4 year old who picks football helmets of the team she thinks will win, a b*tch.

“That little white girl said we weren’t going to win, f*ck that b*tch ! I told yall”

The little girls father responded and said:

“That's my daughter… She's 4 years old. This is a… pic.twitter.com/ip467gCr5m

Cardi B issued an immediate apology, stating that she did not intend to direct offensive language at a child. However, the clarification failed to ease public reaction, with many fans calling the comment inappropriate regardless of intent.

The video continued circulating online, amplifying the backlash and placing the rapper at the centre of a wider debate about celebrity responsibility on social media.

Father Responds to Viral Moment

Reese’s father, Anthony Donatelli, addressed the issue publicly, emphasising that his daughter’s videos are meant to be harmless and family-friendly.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, he explained that Reese chooses teams based on simple associations, such as uniform colors or mascots, and not football knowledge.

“She’s not an analyst,” he said. “She’s four years old. This is just a fun way to introduce her to the sport and help her learn colors and geography.” He also urged public figures to avoid directing harsh language toward children, regardless of context.

Fans strongly disapproved across platforms, including X and Instagram. Many accused Cardi B of crossing a line, while others questioned why a child was targeted amid playoff hype.

Several users criticised what they described as unnecessary escalation, while others pointed to the recurring scrutiny surrounding celebrity behaviour online.

#CardiB is catching backlash after calling a 4-year-old a “btch” during an IG Live. Reese Donatelli is the viral child behind the “Trust the Toddler” movement, known for making NFL picks. Despite the controversy, attention has shifted back to the upcoming AFC Championship. The Patriots and Broncos are set to face off on January 25, with a Super Bowl berth at stake.

New England will attempt to reach its first Super Bowl in eight years, while Denver looks to continue its postseason momentum.
