Brydon Carse has been dropped from England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s while the Cricket Regulator investigates an incident in Derby.
The England and Wales Cricket Board said it referred Saturday night’s events to the regulator after images circulated on social media showing Carse, 31, in handcuffs outside a bar.
The ECB said Carse would remain unavailable for selection while investigators establish the full facts. England replaced him in the squad with 23-year-old pace bowler Sonny Baker.
Carse had been released from England duty during the first Test to play for Durham against Derbyshire. Durham won the match on Saturday before the incident later that evening. The police released Carse without charge. It has not been confirmed why officers detained him.
England won the first Test against Pakistan by an innings inside three days at Headingley. Carse was part of the squad but did not make the starting XI.

Baker now receives another opportunity after earning his only Test cap in the second match of England’s series against New Zealand in June.
Carse has taken 58 Test wickets since making his debut in October 2024, the most by an England bowler over that period.
