NEW YORK: A Brooklyn shooting injured eight people, including four children, during Independence Day celebrations in Coney Island late Friday, the New York Post reported.
The shooting occurred around 10:35pm local time, or 7:35 am PKT, Saturday, as crowds gathered for a holiday fireworks display in the Brooklyn neighbourhood.
The victims included a 33-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman shot in the chest, according to the report.
A 25-year-old woman and three boys aged 14, 12 and 7 were wounded in the legs or thigh. A 37-year-old man was struck in the shoulder, while a 6-year-old boy was shot in the stomach.
Seven victims were reported in stable condition. The 21-year-old woman remained in critical condition.

Authorities had not released information on suspects or a possible motive. The investigation remained ongoing after the shooting in Coney Island, a seaside area in Brooklyn, New York City, where Independence Day crowds had gathered.
