Shanahan reprimanded Aiyuk for being the only player in red shorts while the rest of the team wore black. Despite having the correct shorts on hand, Aiyuk changed outfits on the field, creating a scene that was caught on video. This incident added to the perception of him as a disruptive presence, especially after a contentious offseason in which he clashed with the front office over contract negotiations.
Aiyuk, known for seeking attention, had previously demanded a trade due to uncertainty about his role in an offence featuring stars like Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle. However, he eventually secured a four-year, $120 million contract.
Despite this resolution, tensions remain high, exacerbated by his underperformance in the early season. With key players injured, Aiyuk’s failure to step up has been noticeable, with only 11 catches for 119 yards in the first three games.
